IntroductionLucas is committed to providing an excellent 21st century teaching and learning environment for its students and faculty. To augment the technology provided by the school, students are allowed to use their personal technology devices for instruction. We refer to this program as Bring Your Device to School (BYDS).
BYDS makes instruction more student-centered (Ackerman & Krupp, 2012). BYDS supports Lucas’ Project Based Learning instructional focus (Wong, 2011). How Does BYDS Work?Students are allowed to bring their personal electronic devices to school for instructional use. To maintain an instructional focus and a secure environment, we have put the following guidelines in place:

Maintenance & AccountabilityNetwork Access
Students will connect their device to the filtered DPS wireless network (Workstation) using their DPS user credentials. BYDS devices will not have access to internal DPS resources, such as printers and secure servers. Use of cellular data plans and the wired DPS network is prohibited. Security Students are responsible for their devices. Stolen or damaged devices are the responsibility of the student and their parents or guardians. School administrators will address stolen or damaged devices in the same way they handle similar incidents with other personal items. Maintenance DPS teachers and IT staff are not responsible for troubleshooting connectivity or operation of a personal device. Consequences of Misuse If students refuse to comply with school guidelines, the following consequences will apply. 1st Offense – device will be confiscated until the end of the school day, when the student may retrieve it. 2nd Offense – device will be confiscated until the end of the day, when the student’s parent must retrieve it. 3rd Offense – Loss of BYDS privileges for an extended period of time.
